"One complains about the river, which floods the banks; no one complains about the banks, which limit the river."
Thierry DUMEZ from Paris (CGT) quotes Brecht
Unemployment, lack of perspectives and lack of formation or inadequate formation lead to unsteadiness and acts of violence among young persons, who are not only first accused but also first victims. The world-wide protest movement however shows that young people are politically and socially active and not intimidated by the violence organized by the Italian government.
In Europe 17% of the young adults are unemployed. In France, despite a return of growth and the introduction of regulations as the 35 hours working week or the " plan youth work places ", still 600,000 young adults (less than 25 years old) are unemployed, among them 80,000 in the Paris region.
Thus the unemployment ratio among the under 25 years old persons is about 20% compared to an unemployment rate of 9,8% of the total French population.
In the Paris region the young people constitute 21% of the working population. The region annually attracts on the average 45,000 young people from the province, 60% of them is determined by employment.
The program of 1997 for the integration of young people into the job market comprised the creation of 350,000 work places and for up to 280,000 young people under 25 years old employment was made accessible.
Since predominantly precarious employment was created, young people and trade unions call for transformation into permanent employment.
French trade unions indicate in particular among the young people a weak entry ratio, and a deficiency of the image of the trade unionism.
