The Senator of Labour in Berlin, Gabriele Schöttler, with the delegates of the European capitals trade union conference in Berlin
Placement measures for young people searching training places must be strengthened.
In the scope of the European unification process the trade unions have the task to co-develop the social and job market-specific framework conditions, Mrs. Schoettler said on the occasion of the European capitals trade union conference in Berlin. In all European countries special emphasis must be put on the first step into formation and working life for young people.
In Berlin 62,700 young people are currently trained within the binary formation system. This is the highest figure since the fall of the wall. In 2001 23,400 new formation contracts were made.
To the opinion of the senate administration the gap between demand and supply of training places is closed. Nevertheless not all young persons can be placed. Therefore the senate administration provides 40 millions DM for special measures in favor of these labour market-disadvantaged young people.
„This is well invested money for the city. The co-operation of the management and industry in the scope of the modernization of the formation system in Berlin is exemplary“ Senator of Labour Gabriele Schoettler said.
A further focus of her administration is put on the promotion of the mobility of the trainees and teachers by offering language skills and further education facilities.
