Youth policy most important for the future of a society
Alberto Sera, Secretary to the Uil Rome and Lazio, Italy
Youth policy is the most important for the future of a society. The trade union Uil refuses to accept the widespread prejudices related to young people, declaring them as „youth without values" and „youth neglecting policies and trade unionism".
In co-operation with the other united italian trade unions, Cgil and Cisl, the Uil organized two large events for young people: A concert and a sport festivity.
Earlier we recommended young people to work in public institutions. Nowadays we recommend them to work in companies offering them further education facilities. This is the challenge for young people: competitive and permanently qualified work. Therefore the Uil has created „Cepri". These are information centers helping young people to find a job. Furthermore the Uil has established the CPO (a coordinating board for employment). CPO addresses to young persons working on the basis of limited contracts, working for part time employment companies or under extremely irregular conditions.
The problem is the flexibility expected from young people. In front of the enterprises federations we made concrete propositions against the wild flexibilization. In this regard we hope for a common trade union strategy in Europe.
The fact that the trade unions of the capitals meet here in Berlin reveals our intention to create good working conditions for young people, which do not disregard existing rights but allow the young people to live as valuable citizens influencing the development of Europe.
